The Community Programme for the Unemployed Starts in June
The invitation for participation in the second phase of the Community Programme for the unemployed, 20.385 unemployed to be exact, will be published during the first 10 days of June.
The Office of the Greek Ministry for Combating Unemployment announced the continuation of the Programme, as since the recession hit the country with its culmination in 2011, the unemployment has reached unprecedented levels. Particularly amongst youth, the unemployment rates are striking, often reaching the highest numbers in Europe; sometimes as high as 1 in 2 young persons are unemployed, according to statistics published by the country and Eurostat.
The country has been directing efforts in active labour measures, through the introduction of schemes to (re)integrate people in the labour market and increase their long-term employability. The Community Programme in question is such a measure, entailing job creation parameters which both boost productivity and labour market movement and re-skill the workforce.
The announcement for the start of the Programme relates to meeting needs in all Ministries of the Greek government, apart from the Ministry of Education, in the different regions and decentralised administrations of the country. According to the planning programme of the Ministry, the call for 5.407 positions at the Ministry of Education will be announced in late summer so the hiring of unemployed people will coincide with the start of the new school year.
