Lesbos hit by earthquake, Greek government declares emergency
The eastern Greek island of Lesbos was hit on Monday by an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 which damaged a lot of the homes on the island. So far there is one killed woman and at least 10 injured people.
The epicentre according to the Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management was at a shallow depth of 7 kilometres. The earthquake accrued at 3:28 p.m (12:28 GMT) and at least 24 aftershocks were recorded after it. The earthquake was felt in parts of Turkey all the way to Istanbul and some islands. The tremor was felt even in the province of Izmir, but there are no reported injuries there.

A new fossilized forest was discovered in Lesvos
Construction works on the new road Kalloni – Mytilene to Sigri revealed an astonishing finding. The excavations carried out in the framework of the construction of the new road brought to the surface a new fossilized forest, which remained hidden until now.
According to the Director of the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Fossilized Forest, the findings "are presented for the first time in a comprehensive and understandable way. The findings include numerous large fossilized tree trunks, root systems and tree branches, leaf structures with a wide variety of leaves carrying alive the image of the field excavation in the report".
Tsipras to attend the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation meeting
The Prime Minister, Alexis Tsipras, is expected to be present at the 11th annual meeting of the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation according to reports, whose name, however, is not included so far in the list of official participations of the event.
The overall title of the conference is “The Future of Impact” and will be conducted on 26th-29th of September.

Navarino Environmental Observatory (NEO), 5 Years of Operation
The model environmental observatory has recently celebrated five years of operation. The Navarino Environmental Observatory (NEO) of Costa Navarino has managed to establish Messinia as a reference point amongst the academic community, addressing the atmospheric composition, water resources, the geomorphological and climatic history of the eastern Mediterranean.

The EC decides in favour of relocating refugees from Greece
On the 22nd of September an urgent meeting has been held by the EU Interior Ministers on the issue of the refugee crisis, in yet another attempt by the Member States to agree to relocate 120,000 refugees. Greece has had a huge incline of migration flows in 2015, most of them refugees fleeing from Syria.

Rockwave, the Annual Music Festival is Near!
The Rockwave Festival has been established over the years as one of the biggest festivals in Greece, introducing big names of the music scene to the Greek audience and people who join it from abroad. The Rockwave Festival began in 1996, celebrating therefore 20 years of existence this year.
For 2015, the Festival will take place on Saturday 30th of May, Saturday 20th of June and Saturday 4th of July, each day filled with different music vibes to satisfy music taste.
Rockwave Festival is part of YOUROPE (Official European Union of the biggest festivals, with the strictest inclusion criteria, approved by Brussels) and of ETEP (European program for the showcase, promotion and exchange of emerging artists within the EU member states).
