Chania, Crete: Absolutely charismatic

taking time out at the harbour, chania, creteDespite the growing numbers of tourists visiting this beautiful town, Chania has managed to keep its autenticity. Charming and magical with so many vestiges of its past, it is considered as the most picturesque town on the Greek Island of Crete. Chania, sometimes written as Xania, is where modern and old meet, blending together to make it a fascinating place. For those who want to do some exploring in beautiful narrow winding streets, spend time people watching and still laze on the beach, then this is the perfect choice.

Rhodes Town

rhodes greek island, temples galoreRhodes is the most popular in the Dodecanese chain of Greek Islands. Rhodes Town itself, with the old quarter is very special and a historical site, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Plenty of nightlife and things to see for visitors and holiday makers. But this article is not about Rhodes Town, it rather explores some of the other spots on the island. Beach holidays and Rhodes Town are not really my thing as I'd rather be discovering and exploring out and about to get at the more ancient authentic Greek island lifestyle.

Explore Kefalonia

However, since the release of the 2001 film Captain Corelli's Mandolin, the islands popularity has increased. The film, which was set on the island, also highlighted Kefalonia's towns and historical sites. Depending on the area, where you would like to visit or buy in, one of these towns will suit you, as there is a place for everyone in Kefalonia.

Lively Towns in Crete

Not surprising, as the town is a sublime mix of modern and old providing a wonderful blend of Cretan life. Built on a historic site, the old town has a multitude of narrow streets, dotted with cafes and is full of charm.
